Marek Rask is a wickefinder, a man charged with capturing women with the power to alter the fabric of reality. On the eve of a terrible storm, he's summoned to an ancient fortress on the edge of civilization. There he meets an old flame and an even older enemy. Will he be able to defend the world against both?

I appreciate the simplicity and how visceral it feels.
This is a classic fantasy / sci-fi look.
The use of the font to tie-in with the imagery of the book is striking.
The setting is a fantasy world similar to our 1950's. In particular, the story takes place in an ancient castle which was updated to be a modern military base. It's situated on the borders of a vast rain forest. There, many terrors are reawakening after centuries of hibernation. There is even a rumor (eventually realized) that a dragon-like creature has been spotted -- although the design of these dragons are inspired more by dragonflies than lizards.
At the fortress, Marek will meet a woman he once loved but was forced to abandon.
I would like the book design to be both pulpy and simple, if possible. It's important that it feels "seperate" from other fantasy books because of the unique setting (time period and location, i.e. not a pseudo-medieval world), but also identifiable as a fantasy book. I hope that isn't too contradictory.
