We are a small group of people who are interested in developing computer assisted language learning tools. Our backgrounds are in software dev and foreign language teaching. Over the years, we've become convinced that technology can help people learn second languages. The motivation behind this project (and future projects) comes from a desire to do something meaningful in life (like helping people!), a love of foreign languages, and an interest in software development and technology.
We are currently developing our first software product, an English dictionary and vocabulary tutor called Vocabulator. Vocabulator records the words a user looks up in a dictionary and then schedules flashcard quizzes for the user to review at a later time. The idea is to help the user remember the words they look up. We're working now to get Vocabulator running on iPhone and Android platforms. Eventually, we will also develop a web version that will sync with the mobile versions.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are targeting iPhone users who need an English dictionary and people who want improve their vocabulary. ESL students and non-native English speakers will probably form the majority of our audience, but it could also include native speakers who want to improve their vocabulary (for example, writers, researchers, highschool or college students).
As mentioned, Vocabulator is a dictionary and flashcard tutor system designed to help people improve their English vocabulary. <- This message might be a bit hard to convey through one little icon, but if we break it down, I guess there are three main points we could try to get across:
1) A dictionary and flashcard tutor system.
2) Improve your English vocabulary.
3) Remember the words you learn.
Icons that convey at least one of these three messages are needed. Other creative ideas are welcome too!
The icon should look great from 57x57px up to 512x512px.
