The Medical Arts Program at University of Michigan Medical School
We aim to enhance medical students’ and house officers’ ability to provide high-quality, humanistic clinical care through experiences and analysis of the musical, dramatic, and visual arts, thereby improving clinical care. We are currently midway through the first year of a two-year project funded by the Doris Duke Foundation. Our current website is here: http://themedicalarts.med.umich.edu/ .
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Medical students and house officers at University of Michigan (UM); our funder the Doris Duke Foundation; UM administrators including the Dean of the Medical School, the leader of the UM Health System, and even UM's president; our partners in this program, the UM Museum of Art (umma.umich.edu) and University Musical Society (UMS.org); and other researchers across the USA interested in studying and learning about how exposure to the arts can impact the care doctors provide. All these people tend to be highly educated, and share a passion for medicine and scientific research, as well as the performing and visual arts.
You can get a better sense of what our program involves by visiting our website and those of our partners, and may find it helpful to look at our Annual Report linked from the 'About' pages.
Color scheme is not yet finalized and may depend on what the logo ends up. If you need further inspiration, UM colors are maize and blue and the University has a very distinctive "block M" logo (see umich.edu) but it is not essential to stick to these.
We would like something playful, but classic looking.
We don't want a design that emphasizes only one particular branch of the arts (i.e. a paintbrush or a musical note).
The size of the logo should not be very big -- ideally it will end up being less than 100x100 pixels in size, given the size constraints of the header in our website, so we need something that is simple and that looks good at very small sizes. The website uses the Drupal content management system, its current theme is Garland, and the logo will go in the upper left hand corner next to the title of the site.
