Breakthrough Houses is concerned for families at risk. It can be for those who already have complex and ongoing problems as well as those who are at risk of developing them. We want to reduce the impacts of parental problems on children’s life chances, without initially disbanding the family.
Breakthrough Houses wants to help break the cycle of disadvantage by using a whole family approach. Parental & wider family problems such as poverty, parental worklessness, lack of qualifications, parental mental health, poor housing and contact with the criminal justice system can cast a shadow that spans whole lifetimes & even passes down through generations. These poor models of behaviour can impact on a child’s development & wellbeing with significant costs for public services & the wider community. They damage the ability of children to build resilience to problems or to benefit from the opportunities they are given. The strengths of a family must, if at all possible, be deployed to help them address their own difficulties and challenges so they do not always have to rely on the gov't for support. If we can house families in crisis in a supervised environment, we can promote resilience and support them to build up aspirations & capabilities. We can then build the capacity of family members to support each other.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
This logo will be used to identify ourselves in the community to professional services, concerned community members as well as families in crisis; as a preventative option to family distruction and individuals harm.
This is not a program to assist in detox etc. this is a home for families to come to learn to be responsible in support for each other.
This will be a logo that will be on signs at the front of the homes, it will be on letterheads and fundraising material.
At the moment it is a Sydney based program, but will branch out across Australia.
Two of our other programs we run are Family Life Ministries and By Faith Ministries.
