Bay Colony Rail Trail
We're a group of community organizers from three towns advocating for the conversion of 7 miles of an old rail line to be converted to a multi-use recreational path (for walking, biking, in-line skating, etc.). 70% of the proposed trail traverses through beautiful conservation land and is adjacent to the Charles River. One end of the trail is located in a bustling town with lots of shops, restaurants and other amenties, including a commuter rail line into Boston; the other end is located in a quieter suburban town with lots of charm. In the middle are horse farms, riverfront property and lots of scenic views. This trail provides residents from all three towns to have a safe place to take their children; it gives people safe and easy access to all that the towns have to offer (getting them off traffic-clogged roads); and provides a quiet, peaceful and environmentally sound escape.
Web sites for reference:
Recreational adult bikers, walkers, skaters, in-line skaters, cross-country skiiers (not spandex-clad cyclists who prefer roads)
Older adults who enjoy walking
• A tone that’s peaceful/calm, an escape from noise and traffic, family-friendly (spandex-clad speed cyclists are not likely to use the trail, nor are they desired), and environmentally friendly.
• Inclusion – the trail isn’t just for biking; it is multi-use.
• Two-color logo that also works in B&W, and for a variety of uses (letterhead, Web, collateral, etc.)
* Need jpg and eps files
All three towns are located along the Charles River, and there are a couple of unique wooden and stone bridges that lend visual interest. Links to images:
Note: We are currently without an official style guide, so we are open to new fonts and colors. Currently on the Web, Georgia is used for headers; Lucida Grande for body text and menus. On collateral, Georgia and Trebuchet are used.
