I would definitely like to include a black raven in the design. The logo attached is just an example of a raven that we used for our family's immediate purposes. We would like to create something more original for more permanent use.
The ranch overlooks the Beartooth Mountains in Eastern Montana, so you can use mountains in the design, but it is not required. I have attached a picture of the view from our home to give you an idea (please excuse my son in the foreground :).
You can also include the location of the ranch (Fishtail, Montana)
within the logo if you choose. Again, it is not required.
Another idea is to (respectfully) incorporate Native American design/theme/colors, etc.. Although my family is not full-blooded Native American, it is in our bloodline and the area of the ranch has a strong tie to Crow Indian history. The ranch was actually named "Sacred Raven" by a Crow Indian chief in a naming ceremony a few years ago. I would encourage designers if they go this route, to INCORPORATE the Native American design/colors, etc. and not create a cliched "Indian" logo.
I am presenting my top design choices (probably 5 or 6) to my father for his tweaks as a gift. After edits, we will choose one winner.
The purpose of the logo is for family use only: stationary, clothing, housewares, etc. There will not be any commercial use.
Also, just for your information purposes, I have held one previous contest for a logo for my photography business and was very happy with the result. However, during the contest it was clear that some designers "piggy-backed" on designs that I had rated highly and it made it difficult for me and the original designers. That is the reason I made the contest blind.
I will do my best to give frequent and honest feedback, at least once a day. Once I show it to my dad (probably Wednesday night), there will be feedback from him that I will post.
Thank you so much!
