Slumdata
Slumdata is a project to collect data from the urban poor using mobile phones. The data will be used to design better products and services to meet the needs of the millions of slum dwellers pouring into large developing world cities. Our pilot project will be in Nairobi, Kenya.
The project is focused on creating a better understanding and better information about the world's urban poor. Data we take for granted in rich countries, like weekly income, access to resources, consumption patterns, and other preferences. In the developing world, low income citizens are largely ignored in traditional data collection methods. Slum dwellers provide unique challenges due to their high density, high mobility, and diverse origins.
Main customer: microfinance & non-profit organizations serving the poor
Microfinance organizations provide small loans to the poor. They vary in size from a handful of employees in a single location to large global companies. They will likely interact with the Slumdata brand online.
General
I prefer a typeface logo with limited lines or graphic elements.
Required
-Color = royal blue- 0000cc or 0000ff (similar to the tarps seen in the attached document)
Preferences
-lowercase (depending on font)
-Font: possibly a bit "messy" or "distressed" but still legible (see examples in attached documents)
-simple
It would be OK if "slum" is stacked on top of "data". I have attached some slum images for inspiration. I plan to update my website (slumdata.com) to be dark brown in the background (see example in attached), so that the royal blue will stand out.
