I run a one-man independent software vendor.
My current project is ThoughtMuse, an online web application for creating, editing and sharing mindmaps. Kinda like Google Docs for mindmapping. :) Target launch for v1.0 is this summer.
ThoughMuse enables users to create and store mindmaps online. That's the core featureset of the product. The actual benefit to the customer, however, is that the tool enables him or her to do two things:
A) organize and structure information
B) brainstorm, "throw ideas at the wall" in a structured way.
These two core benefits/values are suggested by the two terms 'Thought' and 'Muse' (=inspiration aid), as well as the product slogan: "Organized Thought. Aimed Inspiration". I'd love for the logo to convey these two concepts.
Also, I'm not a big faceless corporation like some of my competitors - I try to differentiate myself by actually being upfront about this. :) Think "professional, but with a human face". So a human touch should be present in the logo - I'm especially not going for a cold corporate look.
I will provide active and frequent feedback in the comments section here.
The initial target audience is fairly wide: I'll initially target a wide range of productivity nuts and creative thinkers.
I may sharpen my focus to target more specific niches later on, but for the initial version of the product I'm keeping my options open.
* The logo text must be one word, 'ThoughtMuse', with the T and M capitalized.
* The logo must look good on a plain white background, in a range of sizes. Bonus points if it also works in black and white.
* The colors used in the logo must work well with the colors used on the current product sales site:
* The green colors used on the site are fairly heavy/dominant - big plus if the logo has some color that contrasts and offsets those dark greens.
* The graphic design / elements of the logo should be inspired by the ThoughtMuse mindmaps, ie. some sort of tree/branch structure.
For an example of how mindmap files look, have a look at this public TM mindmap (should work in most browsers at this point):
It's basically a graphical "tree" of text content, growing horizontally from left to right. I'd like the graphic design of the logo to be at least vaguely reminiscent of that shape.
