We are creating an internet TV solution based on Adobe AIR and Flex (the Flash platform) and need to create an exceptional UX. This software will be used on the TV as your TV management software including your program guide, main menu, channel changing, volume control, etc.
As such, the design must factor in the user requirements of being viewed from 10-20 feet away (typical viewing distance while watching TV) and must be fairly high contrast for this environment. Also, gradients may not reproduce well on all display devices (TVs) so a simple design will be essential. We need several professionally designed elements to complete the first version of our software.
PC, Mac and set top box TV users. This will touch all types of users/skill levels/demographics/etc.
1) Product logo. The product name is "SkitterTV". The logo must be clean, sharp and it may be useful to include a symbol/character along with the text.
2) Screen designs.
2a. Main menu design. Here we need to provide an opening menu system for the software. We are loosely modeling the Hulu(www.hulu.com) menu system but want to make it unique for our own software and more easily read from a typical 15' TV viewing distance.
2b. Channel info popup. When a channel is selected, a short 5 second popup window is displayed as a transparent overlay on top of the video stream.
2c. Program guide. We have a good design for the program guide but need it cleaned up and a detailed "program info popup" designed.
2d. Pop up keyboard. We must provide a virtual keyboard to allow alphanumeric input from a remote control.
2e. Small elements. We need a "stars" graphic that shows a program's rating (4/5 stars). We also need our "waiting" or "progress" animation designed to match the overall design.
3) Color palette. Currently, the software is designed around the following green value: 0x77a511. Will need a new palette 3-4 colors max
4) Program icon. This software will be installed on PCs/Macs as well and thus must contain a professional icon. We need ICO/PNG/JPG/AI formats and 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x48, 128x128, 256x256 24bit color with alpha channel transparency.
