Startup B2B publication reaching out to municipal officials (more than 50,000) and potential to crossover into consumer market is building an aspirational out-of-the-box publication to coincide with website and email newsletter.
There are plenty of existing publications on the market - American City and County (http://www.americancityandcounty.com) and Governing.com to name the two largest (you can view print covers there). Both are not compelling nor do they inspire.
The goal of EfficientGov is provide innovative ideas and intelligence to municipalities across the US (with Int'l down the road). The cover art (see green box on mockup) will be an illustration (think the Economist or New Yorker) rather than just another photo of an administrator.
The publication is about innovation and the cover will need to embrace that concept. I think the mock up i've created gets that going in the right direction, but clearly i'm not an designer. Need ideas on fonts, layout, etc.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
As described above, originally this publication is a B2B magazine targeting officials at towns and cities across the US. However, over time i believe there is an opportunity to migrate into the consumer space as well.
I'm looking for your best shot at the entire magazine cover, one that will catch the reader's eye and immediately make them think this is nothing like any B2B publication they have ever seen before. It's gotta be clean, needs to have major logo presence, as well as the tag line, "municipal innovation and intelligence."
layout and fonts should be outside-the-box, with practicality and uncluttered in mind.
