Pixel Counter (pixelcounter.co.uk)
Pixel Counter is a small independent web design and development in the North West of the UK. Their ethos is strong on the 'independent' aspect, this allows them to provide a much higher and intimate level of services to their customers whilst producing some of the best web work available online.
They are young, energetic, fashionable, innovative, creative and sit at the forefront of their industry. They get excited about vintage cameras and wrinkly old sepia photographs, new iPhones and computers, chromed retro furniture and 1950s - 1960s, bold, colourful Coca Cola adverts and film posters.
Their work has been highly praised and recognised within the professional community and has attracted a number of awards at national level. It is hoped that the overhaul of their site from this competition will attract further recognition.
We ran a competition on here very recently for their new logo, and it is hoped that through this competition we can continue to meet like-minded and talented designers to continue to work with in the future and long after this competition has ended.
We will always leave feedback comments and star ratings for everybody and are happy to answer any questions any of you might have, about the website redesign, or anything else. Just drop us a line!
Generally small businesses and start-ups looking for web development, as well as other web developers and designers looking for development related tips and advice.
These types of people are expecting a clean and impressive site but most importantly of all: it must stand out and be different. It is important that it stands out from the crowd and is memorable so that potential customers will remember to come back, and people visiting the site to read the development blog will be more interested in returning for further posts in the future.
For the most part we want to avoid constraining your creativity through stringent requirements, but there are a few that should be kept in mind:
What we want is a bright, retro redesign of our current website (http://pixelcounter.co.uk). On a wireframe level the current site is great so don't change the layout itself around too much.
Areas in particular that need attention are the footer and top black bar (both of which are solid black bars currently) and the righthand bar which is stylistically too close to the main page content. The overall appearance and feel should be redesigned to reflect a more retro appearance.
Stylistically we want something retro, bold, and colourful. Think of vintage Coca Cola adverts and film posters. We want to see your ideas but please not too much grunge!
The only tech requirement is all main content fonts must be web-safe, and fonts such as used in the (currently red) top navigation must be open source so that they can be embedded without any legal issues. You can see a great selection of open-source fonts here: http://bit.ly/dhyoI although any other open source font you can find online is fine as well, you'll just need to be able to show us where to find it!
* a large-scale PNG version of the logo in it's many different forms;
* screenshots of all major pages in the site which must be taken into consideration in your designwork.
