We are a web development company creating a new website for the UK arm of a major German underfloor heating supplier. Our aim is to supply simple and easy to use websites that fulfil the needs of the target audience and the business objectives of the client.
We are focussed on web standards, usability and accessibility and often work as an outsource partner for other organisations as is the case for this project.
The client is an established supplier of underfloor heating for 15 years but now needs to improve it's presence and on-line branding. The German background of the parent company can be felt in the desire for simple and practical solutions and this extends to their website, where an ease of use and simplicity in design are expected. That said the product is a luxury heating system for the home and the final design will be elegant as well.
The client has provided a list of sites that they like: http://www.wagenhaeuser.com/ver/2/0/1/
- clear design http://www.fussbodenheizung.de/fuss…index.html
- easy to understand, good structure http://www.encompas.co.uk/
- very good design and structure http://www.underfloorheatingsystems.co.uk/
- Good page with easy structure http://www.tecnauk.com/home/index.html
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The website is aimed at the UK market and should appeal to 2 audiences:
The self builder or home installer is a skilled Do It Yourself enthusiast or will project manage their own install. Either way they will be passionate about the final product and will be motivated by the anticipated benefits it will bring to their life.
The installer is a professional who is looking for cost effective easy to use and well supported products which can fulfil the requirements of their clients while still allowing them to make a profit, and will provide sufficient quality that post-installation support will be kept to a minimum.
It is important that both of these quite divergent target markets are catered for and the winning design will be one that can carry this off successfully.
We require a design for the home page and an interior page showing the contextual navigation. The design should follow the layout in the supplied wire frame pdf. The fonts used should be from the Arial family and the colours should reflect the logo. The final site will be developed using the YUI-Grid system (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/grids/) so the final dimensions will be:
Right col: 311px with 19px left margin
Left Col: 180px with a 13px right margin
The icons used in the wire frame for the home page (Heating comfort, energy saving, etc) are attached as eps files. The style of these icons should be used to create a 'Get a free quote' icon for the top right of the Home page. Although the logo shown on the wire frame is light on dark, the attached logo is dark on light and this is the correct version to use.
The design should have a feeling of structure but with space, separation of elements should be achieved through white space rather than borders. The wire frame has been signed off so should be followed quite closely in terms of layout, but other than that the 'feel' of the site is open to interpretation.
The final design should be delivered in a fully layered .psd file with all images at full size and in place. The final size of the design should be greater than the final website to allow for adjustments without serious degrading of image quality.
