I used black and white, to highlight the racism theme. As for the illustrastion, on the background I used aces of pikes (weapons) with skullsl to rapresent the violence of racism itself, while on top I used the ace of hearts to imply healing and love as the only real solution of the problem.")

At the same time I wanted to mantain the design as minimal as possible and as clean as possible.
Initially I created an illustration which rapresented the hummingbird and some fig branches (as in the title of the book), limiting the color of the graphic elemets to green. In a second time the author asked me to try the hummingbird illustration he provided, which had many more colors, so together we explored a way to brings those colors to the text, and replaced the fig branches with a splash of watercolour sky.")

This passage, together with the title of the book, \"It's how you finish\", suggested me the idea to put on the cover a human-shaped maze of life. If what matters it's how you finish, I thought, then the end of the paths inside the maze must take to the center of self, which I symbolized through the center of the silhouette and the center of the word YOU as well.")

I tried to convey the energy of the clash of different substances and worlds and the beauty of magic trough the movement of the flames.")

I chose a reference to Michelangelo's Creation of Man to suggest the connection between us and an inherent wellbeing to overcome depression and PTSD, and evoke a sense of re-creation of self.
At the center, the spark of light of revelation and an elaboration of the symbol the author provided, as the connection happens through the tecniques the author illustrated in her book.
The galaxies on the background are used as an analogy to the deep mysteries of the mind.")
