Von ihr erfährt Thomas, dass es sich bei dem König um Comte Badawi Amara Attisser handelt, einen Voodoo-Priester, der sich bereits vor Jahrhunderten mit dunklen Geistern eingelassen hat.
Allmählich erkennt Thomas, dass ihn etwas mit dem Comte verbindet, ein Ereignis, das sich 1789 in Haiti zutrug.")
