I chose limes, both cut and whole, as the main design for the book to go along with the title. I chose cooler toned analogous colors. The cool tones were chosen because they represent calm and tranquility (what the author hopes their readers feel when reading the book). The limes are illustrated (by me) to give the book a more playful and lightheartedness to what is already a heavy book.
To create this cover, I first sketched it on paper with a pencil. I uploaded the image to Adobe Photoshop and made it transparent. I then vectorized it on Adobe Illustrator, added color, and text. I exported that image back to Photoshop where I made small adjustments to my vectorized drawing in order to better translate it to digital form. Finally, I placed the finish product with the completed cover to create the book mockup. This passion project was created in 2022.")

The cover does not contain any stock images. I illustrated the diamond in Photoshop by creating an outline to guide my brushstrokes. I then used a watercolor brush to color, add highlights, and details. I then put a gaussian blur over the diamond to blend the colors together. For the typography, France is the setting. So, for the title, I chose a font that looked like it had a French theme. The author’s name is in a cursive font to compliment the title’s font. For the background, I used a blue spatter brush over navy and reduced the opacity. I chose navy because it would allow for the rest of the design to stand out and give some contrast. This passion project was completed in 2022.")

I came up with the idea of two hands being “tethered” by a loose string. The string tethering the hands together symbolize their unhealthy bond. I made the string appear loose to give hope to the readers of the book that they are able to release themselves from the relationship. For the hand, I chose cooler tones to symbolize the misery from feeling stuck. The background of the book is yellow to represent the hope they should have to be released from the ties

Typography was very important to this design to catch reader’s eye and give a professional and modern feel. “Thriving” needed to be noticed before “arriving.” The two different colored “shadows” behind the man represent the beginning stage and the ending successful stage. I wanted the “shadow” figures to stand out on the page through use of bright cool colors that were pleasing to the eye and didn’t inflict a strong emotion like red would have. I used a spatter brush behind the man to give extra depth to the design. I focused the brush strength on the bottom of the cover and not the top so that the title area wasn’t busy and difficult to read. This passion project was created in 2022.")

Red is the main color because it symbolizes both love and hurt. I wanted to have a cover that depicted these contradictory emotions. The heart balloons express happiness and love, while the water droplet overlay intends to inflict sadness. This contradiction interests people to read the book.
Using Photoshop, I used 2 stock images. For the water droplet image, I adjusted the lighting. Once I finished editing that image, I changed the layer type to “exclusion” so that everything underneath shows through, but in their inverted colors. I then inverted the colors of the layers underneath of the rain overlay so that I could still see those images though the rain, but it would be back in their normal colors. This made my design appear a though the rain drops were on top of the words and the hearts. This passion project was created in 2022.")
