A very unique and interesting brand concept for Japanese-Hawaiian restaurant that specialized in serving musubi (A nori covered ball of rice with various fillings and flavors)
There are many kinds of yōkai (supernatural beings found in Japanese folk religion) call it Japanese ghost if you want :p. I choose to go with an imagery of Tengu as the main logo, reason is because it can be easily recognized by people as a being from Japanese folklore.
This unique & peculiar characteristic of Tengu (Red face, long nose, white hair) plus a silhouette of rising sun in the background convey more authentic, humble & affordable image that says the shop is here to fill the bellies of the working class without breaking the bank. Also fun Tengu expression while eating musubi resonates cheerful vibes that speaks they serve the ultimate comfort food that can even make a ghost smile! :)")

Animation is done by traditional frame-by-frame anime style drawing, mixed with 2,5D parallax method. it's fun!

I'm grateful and thank you to John (client) for introducing me to a legendary band, The Grateful Dead, and I instatly hooked with thir songs and spectacular artwork they had, so as reference in mind, I tried to depict a simple hand drawn retro, psychedelic, hippie theme to the logo, and the result is awesome~ :)")

Isn't that boring? :p we need to jump out of the boring box!
The restaurant is located on Portland Oregon, which is known for it's white Stag, so I came up with the idea to incorporate Portland, noodle and Japanese vibe into one single logo. A negative space of a stag with noodle horn on abstract Japanese ink wash (Ensō) background will do the work, with mugen kanji strokes to emphasize on Japanese vibe. A lot more Simple iconic and memorable than just bowl and noodle right? :)")
